My Roots

Founder of Cosmic Roots- Isabel Cali
The cyclical nature of life has carried me through highs and lows, but most profoundly, inward. It was curiosity—why a plant like kava kava uplifted my spirit, or why shavasana at the end of a yoga class brought such deep peace—that became my compass. This same curiosity continues to guide my exploration of the mind-body connection and the innate intelligence of plants as allies in our human evolution.
I believe the greatest gift I can offer is a space where others can reconnect with their body's own wisdom—an intelligence that knows how to guide, nourish, protect, and comfort us through every season of life. Through this inner healing intelligence, we reclaim our own resources, gifts, peace, and guiding star.
I know that the same intelligence in plants and mushrooms works in harmony with our inner healer. When held in the right context, these allies can support healing on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels—bringing us into greater wholeness.
You are your greatest healer. I am here to guide or support you on your journey to remembering.

The Long Story
Cosmic Roots was birthed slowly and continues to evolve just like anything good. Its conception was sparked by the discovery of the root called ‘Kava Kava’. I stumbled into a Kava bar when I was 18 and was immediately taken by the euphoric, deeply relaxing properties as well as the ritual around its consumption. I came home with a passion to know more. I began to create herbal blends, first with Kava and the blends began to broaden as this passion expanded into a curiosity for the plant kingdom as a whole. I began selling herbal teas and tinctures at local farmers markets where people would ask me for advice and recommendations for specific remedies to imbalances they were dealing with. I had this overwhelming and undeniable feeling of being a fraud. There were so many gaps in my understanding of why plants worked for certain symptoms and most of my answers came directly from google or an herbal book with a cookbook answer and no real comprehension. I myself didn’t deeply understand how a plant could help somebody with a particular problem, so I would hope that what I did have to offer would balm their concern. I knew it wasn’t enough though. This deep knowing led me to step back from selling herbal creations and begin to build a strong foundation of herbal understanding so that I could be a resource for people who were seeking herbs as a holistic approach to healing. I completed the Alchemical Herbalism course through the school of Evolutionary herbalism in 2025. I am proud to continue to study under the guidance and deep wisdom of my teacher. Today, I feel confident in helping people find the right plant for their unique healing process.
Simultaneously, I had been studying yoga for just as long. I completed 400 hours of yoga teacher training in the United States and then packed my bags and continued 300 more hours of Study in Rishikesh, India. As time went on, I became more interested in sharing yoga as a somatic experience or a practice and space for people to come deeper into the body. While in the motherland of Eastern healing, I chose to spend the little time that I had to myself at an Ayurvedic center. Ayurveda is the sister science to yoga. Ayurveda or the ‘Knowledge of life’ is in a basic explanation, healing through food, herbs and lifestyle based on the seasons and our own unique composition. I learned A LOT while I was in India. I went there to study yoga, and I did, but the most profound teaching that I was given while I was at the ayurvedic center, and that is, that our lifestyle is our health. What we eat, what we think, what we drink, how we wake, when we go to sleep, when we practice, how we practice, how we move, how we speak, what we say.... these things that seem mundane and trivial hold great significance in the harmony of our being and how we feel every day. Our Lifestyle is our health. I began to see this in my own life and could not deny its simple truth.
Alchemical herbalism is a revival and bridge of Eastern and Western traditions of healing. What struck me about my herbal teacher, Sajah Popham, was his passion to unbury the western lineage of healing. I find it refreshing to know that in this land that I call home and have grown, resides deep roots and wisdom around healing. Healing not just on a physical level, but on a spiritual, mental and soulful level too. Astrology is a big part of the western healing lineage. Physicians used to have to be astrologers in the western world because when we study astrology it gives us deep insight into the underlying patterns of nature that we might otherwise miss. That is really what alchemy is... studying the natural world. So of course, Astrology is an intrinsic piece. My Studies continue every day in the astrological realm. Plants have become instruments for me to embody the celestial forces at play within my own life and my clients.
Since 2017 I have been a student of yoga and plants. I believe I was always a student of the stars. I remember reading astrology books to my mom as an adolescent and would geek out on it in my free time. I also completed my reiki master's and my Shamanic initiation in 2022. I find that each and every tool in my belt helps me at different seasons and for different reasons. I continue to study every topic that I have discussed thus far, as well as sound healing, mushroom therapy and integration. My intention and devotion to my own healing path is inviting me to share my experience and understanding through different means of healing. Everything that I share comes from lineages handed down to me from my teachers as well as my own experience and thoughtful contemplation on subjects that are vast. The evolution of my holistic practice has brought me to a place where I deeply desire to be a guide and a source for helping others navigate their own journey of self-discovery and wholeness.
